Pendant la Grande Guerre, des socialistes soutiennent la politique de défense nationale au sein de l'Union sacrée. Face à la montée en puissance d'une minorité pacifiste au sein du parti à partir de 1915, ces majoritaires doivent affronter la crise de la conscience socialiste que provoque la guerre.Dans la première partie, une série d'articles apporte des éclairages nouveaux et synthétiques sur les majoritaires, généralement mal connus voire méprisés, dans l'historiographie.La seconde partie est composée de reproductions d'archives, d'articles et de documents inédits qui permettent au lecteur de se confronter aux écrits des majoritaires et démontrent la nécessité de cette nouvelle histoire.

This paper presents the case of the resistance to dilution in workshops in and around Glasgow in 1915 and 1916. Dilution was devised by the British government as a way of reorganising the means of production in order to better suit the requirements of the war industry. The government resorted to several Acts of Parliament to implement dilution, censor the press and jail and/ or deport local shop stewards who engaged in a fierce movement of resistance. This short episode of the working class movement in the West of Scotland opposed the shop stewards not only to the British government and their employers but also to their official union representatives. First World War Diaries: Making the Private Public

This article analyses several World War I Diaries written by soldiers on the Front. Starting with the circumstances of publication and their effects on the text, the article addresses the passage of these very private texts into public life, before turning to the role played by the diaries for the soldiers who write them. Studies of the diary as a genre are used to show how war diaries fit into the more general genre. Finally the article turns to the reception of these works, by studying what part literary distance may play for the soldiers keeping a diary, and by arguing that the task of making sense of these texts has been transferred to present-day readers.
